Playing short-handed again, Indiana State’s women suffered their sixth straight Missouri Valley Conference basketball loss Friday night, falling 78-67 to host Illinois State.
Deja Mattox had to miss the game after suffering a possible concussion in practice earlier in the week, although freshman Rachael Mahan stepped in and had a solid 11-point, nine-rebound game in a 31-minute stint.
Brittany Schoen led the Sycamores with 18 points, while Taylor Whitley added 15 and Shannon Thomas matched Mahan’s numbers.
Indiana State had its last lead just over five minutes into the game, although the Sycamores were still within 34-30 at halftime.
Katie Broadway was the difference for the Redbirds with a game-high 26 points. Jamie Russell added 17 points and Marley Hall 15.

When the Indiana State women’s golf program was resurrected in 2005, it had already been on a 28-year hiatus. Since then, the Sycamores have enjoyed modest success, but have not hosted a golf match or invitational.

ISU golfers step up after injury sidelines top player
Indiana State will be missing its best player, junior Reece Feducia, in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championships at the Country Club of Terre Haute from today through Tuesday.
Feducia was the team’s medalist in their first five tournaments of the fall season, but is still recovering from complications due to gall bladder surgery. She was all-MVC a year ago, finishing tied for third in last year’s MVC tournament. - More College Headlines
