METRO ROUNDUP: Four from Rose receive weekly honors

TERRE HAUTE — Four Rose-Hulman athletes earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors, the HCAC announced Monday.

The Engineers swept the women’s track awards, Creasy Clauser named Track Athlete of the Week and Liz Evans Field Athlete of the Week, while Sutton Coleman was Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Alisa Dickerson was Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Clauser set a school record in the 400-meter dash at the Rose-Hulman Invitational with a time of 1:00.22, helping the Engineers place seventh among 12 teams. She was also fifth in high jump and part of a fifth-place 4x400 relay team.

Coleman won the 60-meter hurdles in the same meet in 8.12 seconds, fastest time in NCAA Division III this season, and also won the 200-meter dash in 22.58. His efforts helped the Engineers win the Engineer Invitational — which included two top-20 Division III teams — for the first time.

Evans, already a four-time All-American, went 5-foot-10 in high jump, also a school record and the second-best mark in Division III this spring. It’s in the top five all-time in Division III.

Dickerson earned her second Player of the Week honor this season, scoring 23 points with 12 rebounds in a win at Mount St. Joseph after a 20-point, 13-rebound effort earlier in the week against Manchester. She is second in the HCAC in scoring (18.1 ppg) and leads the conference in rebounds (7.9 per game).

Rose-Hulman returns to track and field action Friday at the DePauw Invitational. The women’s basketball team is 6-13 overall and 4-8 in league play entering Wednesday night’s game at Anderson.

Volleyball

• Wilson joins Sycamore staff — Coach Traci Dahl of the Indiana State volleyball team announced Monday that Nicole Wilson has been named assistant coach for the Sycamores beginning immediately.

“I am thrilled to welcome Nicole to our Sycamore volleyball family,” Dahl said. “Having Nicole on board will help our team tremendously. She is going to be a great complement to our existing staff and will provide and even better connection between the coaching staff and our student athletes.”

Wilson earned numerous honors as a volleyball player at Missouri from 2003 to 2007 including being named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America in 2005.

She began her collegiate coaching career in 2008 as an assistant coach at Central Methodist, then became the first volleyball assistant at McNeese State in 2009, and served in that position until accepting the Indiana State position.

At Drake, she played for coach Wayne “Special K” Kreklow, the former Drake basketball star.
