Bradley shoots down ISU women

Sycamores suffer first MVC loss

PEORIA, Ill. — The Indiana State women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Bradley team on Saturday afternoon, as the Sycamores dropped a road contest 79-58 inside the Renaissance Coliseum.

The Sycamores fell for the first time in Missouri Valley Conference play this season, seeing their four-game winning streak come to an end. ISU sits at 10-7 overall, 4-1 in the MVC. Bradley improves to 11-7 on the season, 2-4 in league play.

Indiana State jumped out to an early lead on Saturday, holding an 18-6 lead after the first eight and a half minutes of action. Senior Deja Mattox and sophomore Anna Munn paced the Sycamores to their early advantage as Mattox tossed in 11 early points with a perfect 3-for-3 effort from long range, while Munn added five points.

Bradley’s shots began to fall after ISU took their 12-point lead, as the Braves ended the half by scoring 32 of the game’s next 40 points to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.

ISU cut the Bradley lead to 10 points early in the second half, using an 8-2 run fueled by 3-pointers by Munn and senior Brittany Schoen to make the score 46-36 with 14:00 to go.

But the Braves never let the Sycamores get closer than that as they cruised the victory.

Munn led the Sycamores by tying her career high with 20 points, going 6-for-10 from field with three triples. The sophomore from Indianapolis also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked three shots. Schoen (12 points) and Mattox (11 points) joined Munn in double figures.

Bradley sophomore Kelsey Budd provided the spark off the bench that the Braves needed to snap their three-game MVC losing skid, finishing with 25 points off the bench including a 6-for-7 effort from beyond the arc.

The Sycamores return home next weekend for a pair of conference matchups, hosting Creighton on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Drake on Jan. 22 at 2:05 p.m. inside Hulman Center.
