Terre Haute North grad Carol Weatherford has continued the success for Anderson University’s volleyball team that she enjoyed in the first two years of her career.
The junior middle hitter was named to the all-tournament team earlier this season as Anderson went 2-2 in the Millikin Invitational at Decatur, Ill. Weatherford finished the four-match event with 35 kills, 14 digs, 14 service points and 14 blocks.
The Ravens are now 12-14 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season following Wednesday night’s tough homecourt loss to second-place Defiance. The visiting Yellow Jackets won by scores of 32-30, 25-21, 23-25, 17-25 and 15-12 on Dig For A Cure Night to promote breast cancer awareness.
Weatherford had 19 kills, five service points, four blocks for Anderson. On the season, she is third on the team with 173 kills and has 77 blocks, 74 digs and 22 aces.
She is an elementary education major.

• Hamilton seventh — Terre Haute North freshman Amy Hamilton placed seventh to lead the University of Indianapolis women’s cross country team in the Lucian Rosa Invitational at Wisconsin-Parkside last weekend.
Indianapolis was 16th overall, but Hamilton’s 5K time of 18:38 led the Greyhounds and placed her seventh among the 316 female participants.
Hamilton had the second-fastest time among freshmen, crossing just 33 seconds behind Ferris State’s Tina Muir (who was fourth).
• GVS wins title — Grand Valley State’s men’s cross country team took home a first-place finish recently at the Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships in Milford, Mich.
Shakamak grad Anthony Witt was 14th in 26:07 as the Lakers won the team title by a 55-point margin.
• HCAC tennis awards — Terre Haute North senior Katie Fleschner closed out her outstanding tennis career at Hanover College by leading the Panthers to an undefeated season in HCAC action and being named first team all-conference.
Teammate Ali Gantz of Greenwood, the girlfriend of Hanover senior men’s basketball player Dan O’Leary of Terre Haute North, was also named first-team all-HCAC.

College Report: Lively earned collegiate upgrade with strong play
Hillary Lively signed to play Division II basketball at Maryville (Mo.) during her senior year at North Vermillion, but those plans changed and she would up at nearby Danville Area Community College — where she recently concluded an outstanding two-year career.
Lively was impressive enough to earn a Division I scholarship to Southeast Missouri State of the Ohio Valley Conference, and both her future and past college coaches think she will continue to succeed there.
“She fits what we need,” SEMO coach Ty Margenthaler said. “She has college experience, she is strong and physical and plays well around the basket and moves well.
“Her strength, rebounding and touch around the basket will be a big help. On the defensive end, she’ll be able to guard a true center.” -
