Estate planning, wills topic of Lunch with a Lawyer program

TERRE HAUTE — Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled Lunch with a Lawyer from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Wabash Senior Activity Center at 300 S. Fifth St. in Terre Haute.

Lunch with a Lawyer is a free educational program that welcomes the local senior public to hear the lawyer of the month present an educational topic while attendees enjoy a complimentary meal. You do not need to be a member of the Senior Center to come and participate. Just bring a questioning mind, an appetite and perhaps a friend.

People do not need to be a member of the Senior Center to come and participate.

The Lunch with a Lawyer program was designed to allow the seniors to get out of their homes, fellowship with their peers, extend their available financial resources, promote enhanced living, and educate them (from a preventive standpoint) with the goal of ensuring their quality of life and providing them with the resources and protective information to make an informed decision.

This month’s guest is Rick Brewster of Frisse & Brewster Law Offices LLC in Terre Haute.

Brewster received his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1980 from Indiana State University. After earning his CPA, he served as CFO for a software development firm. Brewster attended the Indiana School of Law and in 2000 was admitted to the Indiana Bar. As a former staff attorney for Ernst & Young in Indianapolis, Brewster’s concentration was in the area of human resource consulting. He became a full partner in Frisse & Brewster Law Offices in 2005.

Brewster concentrates in business and estate planning law, using the unique “team” approach of education, counseling, creative decision making and family conversation. This approach of engaging the client and including the professional financial and legal advisors in the process is designed to protect what’s important to the client.

Brewster is a member of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys. Providing support and continuing education, the Network’s members share a practicing commitment that respects the dignity of both their profession and their clients.

He conducts public and private seminars and workshops on estate planning and business matters. He is also a contributing columnist for the Terre Haute Journal of Business and the South Central Illinois edition of The Business Report.

At the event learn about estate planning, living wills and wills, power of attorney, and how to protect assets from cost of long-term care.

A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Lunch will be complimentary and provided courtesy of Cloverleaf Healthcare of Knightsville.

Each Lunch with a Lawyer program has a “mission moment” speaker (community service agency). This speaker serves as a “public defender/community defender” agency and will provide information to the people about what they do and how they are there to serve them in their community. This month’s Mission Moment will feature Dr. Muriel Ryan (Director of Families Choice and member of Wabash Valley Homeless Coalition), whose organization offers shelter and support for homeless people in Terre Haute.

Space is limited and reservations are required. RSVP by calling (812) 232-7575.

The Lunch with a Lawyer program welcomes community participation and is open to suggestions regarding speakers. Additionally, attorneys interested in participating should contact Senior Education Ministries at (812) 917-4970 or email loriaplin@gmail.com.
