TERRE HAUTE — Harrison College announced Tuesday that John Woods has been hired into the new role of director of international academic operations in a nod that further solidifies the college’s sights on international educational expansion of its online presence. Woods will be working closely with Michael Sanders, who joined Harrison in April to lead its international development efforts.

The director of international academic operations is a new position that will serve as the primary coordinator of international operations, responsible for the assurance of quality and desired outcomes in the design, development, delivery and educational effectiveness of Harrison’s international academic programming and partnerships.

“Harrison is transforming the international education space and required a leader to help ensure that quality programs and educational effectiveness are consistently the cornerstones of all of our global endeavors,” said Dr. Dennis A. Trinkle, Harrison provost and chief academic officer. “John brings broad-based experience in program development, accreditation and faculty development that are essential to Harrison’s becoming a 21st Century Global University.”

With nearly 15 years of higher education experience, Woods comes to Harrison having most recently served as vice president of academic affairs at Rasmussen College. Prior to Rasmussen, he previously served at Ohio Dominican University as dean of continuing education and has also worked in business development, primarily aimed at assisting colleges and universities with instructional technology, including distance learning.

“Harrison is redefining the international online education space and it’s an incredible opportunity to be on the ground floor of those efforts and to be working with a higher learning institution that focuses on student learning outcomes and the overall student experience,” said Woods.

Woods has also been an adjunct faculty member for several colleges and holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University, where he specialized in adult learning and training and development. He also serves as a peer evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission and has consulted for career-focused colleges. He resides with his family in Columbus, Ohio.
