The 20 members of the board of directors of the Indiana Bankers Association have assumed their positions effective Jan. 1. Members of the 2013 board were elected at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick in September.
Southwest Region directors include H. Michael Lawson of The Riddell National Bank, Brazil.
The Indiana Bankers Association supports Indiana banking through issues analysis, professional education, and products and services that enhance financial institutions’ ability to serve their communities. The IBA was established in 1897.

Jose Kreutz has accepted a partnership position with Thompson Thrift Construction Inc. He previously held the position of senior vice president of business development with the company. The partnership was effective Jan. 1.
Kreutz joined the Thompson Thrift organization in 2009 and has served in various roles within the Thompson Thrift companies: Thompson Thrift Construction, Thompson Thrift Retail Group and Watermark Residential.
Over the past two years, he has led Thompson Thrift Construction’s Business Development efforts, focusing on expanding the company’s presence as an apartment builder and general contractor. As a result, Thompson Thrift Construction has been named one of MFE (Multifamily Executive) magazine’s “Top 25 General Contractors.”
Thompson Thrift is currently constructing 2,200 apartment units in eight states, including affordable housing, market-rate apartments and student housing on university campuses.
In his new role as partner with Thompson Thrift Construction, Kreutz'’ duties will include directing Business Development and managing the company’s Estimating and Pre-Construction Services.
“Jose has proven himself to be a valuable asset and consummate team player. He has greatly contributed to the dynamic growth we have enjoyed over the last several years,” said John Thompson, president of Thompson Thrift Construction. “We expect him to play a major role in the future growth and progression of Thompson Thrift Construction. Paul [Thrift, president of Thompson Thrift Development] and I are pleased to have Jose join us as our partner in our effort to continue to grow this company into a best-in-class general contractor,” he added.
“I could not be more pleased to have the opportunity to partner with Paul Thrift and John Thompson, two men who epitomize a strong and honest work ethic,” Kreutz said. “Over the last several years I have been able to serve in various capacities within the organization. This has allowed me to understand the capabilities and culture of our firm.
“We are a general contractor built to serve apartment and retail developers, which allows me to use my development experience to assist our clients with entitlements, permitting, design and, of course, successful construction,” he said.
Kreutz received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and has worked in various development and construction roles throughout his career. He began his career as a design engineer in the Baltimore, Md., area and was one of the principal engineers behind Carmel’s Village of WestClay and other award-winning projects nationwide.

The season of giving began early in the Terre Haute community. The Arby’s restaurant at 3670 S. U.S. 41 joined other Arby’s restaurants across the country to help raise money for the Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.
From Aug. 20 through Sept. 30, Arby’s restaurants collected money for the Arby’s Foundation and its mission to end childhood hunger. Customers who donated to the cause received a pin-up pledge to sign and hang on the walls of the restaurant to show support.
The Terre Haute Arby’s was recognized as one of the top fundraising leaders out of 33 stores within Huse Inc., an Arby’s franchise company. Bringing in a total of $1563.43 in just six weeks, Store No. 970 worked hard to earn donations from customers and raise awareness about childhood hunger in America.
“We are proud to be part of a nationwide effort to help end childhood hunger in America. Due to the generosity of our guests, we were able to raise $33,000 for the No Kid Hungry campaign, which is a new company record. We surpassed last year’s total by more than $10,000,” said Craig Truelock, vice president of operations for Huse Inc.
The Arby’s system, as a whole, generated a fundraising record of $2.5 million in donations in 2012. The Arby’s Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization, has raised more than $52 million to support youth initiatives in the communities the foundation serves.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana’s inaugural year, in 1953, began with 70 civil libertarians from the Indianapolis area attempting, unsuccessfully, to secure a meeting place at the Indiana War Memorial. Today, the ACLU of Indiana has grown to more than 4,500 members and donors statewide.
The organization has announced its 2013 slate of officers, new board and staff effective Jan. 1.
Sharon Russell of Terre Haute has been appointed affirmative action officer.
“We are thrilled that so many talented individuals have chosen to give their energy and expertise to the ACLU of Indiana,” said Jane Henegar, executive director. “We stand on the shoulders of many individuals dedicated to the freedoms we share as Americans who sustained this organization. Sixty years later, we continue to build and strengthen the ACLU of Indiana, which all Hoosiers can depend upon to protect their constitutional rights.”
Alice Bennett, the incoming president of the ACLU of Indiana, said, “I am excited to have the opportunity to work with board members representing many areas in the state of Indiana. Together with our outstanding staff we will help ACLU of Indiana to continue to grow and to protect the civil liberties of all Hoosiers.”

Three Wabash Valley men are among several boards and commissions appointments made Jan. 11 by Gov. Mitch Daniels before leaving office.
John Stelle, Terre Haute, was reappointed to the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote, support, assist, sustain and encourage the charitable, educational and scientific programs, projects and policies of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Stelle’s term expires July 1, 2015.
Thomas E. Johnson, Sullivan, a retired superior judge of Sullivan County, was appointed to the Natural Resources Advisory Council. The council acts in an advisory capacity on matters pertaining to policy, administration and programs conducted by the department. Johnson’s term expires June 30, 2014.
Bob Wright, Terre Haute, was reappointed to the Indiana Natural Resources Commission. The commission is tasked with administering the various state historic sites and other Department of Natural Resources properties. Wright’s term expires June 30, 2013.
