Downtown bookstore announces final day is Saturday

BookNation has served Wabash Valley since 1991, will be open late Friday

TERRE HAUTE — BookNation will stay open late on Feb. 3 for one more First Friday downtown, with a blow-out, 48 hour Beer Box Sale planned to begin that morning.

“We have had steady traffic since November, when we announced that our shop would close in early 2012, but we still have lots of great books on the shelves,” said owner Todd Nation. “We’ll cut our prices down to 80 percent off their marked price on Monday, and keep them there through our last week until we close on February 4. During the Beer Box Sale on our last two days, customers will also have the option to fill an empty beer case with books for just $20. We have the boxes ready to go. It should be a lot of fun.”

Nation, his parents, Fred and Nancy, and his sister, Tonya Pfaff, bought Terre Haute’s oldest bookselling business, Campbell’s Books, in September of 1991.

They renamed it BookNation, and have operated out of five different locations within a block of Seventh Street and Wabash Avenue over the last 20 years.

The shop’s current location at 675 Wabash has been open for nearly four years. It is partially stocked and staffed by Zann Carter, a bookseller who became a BookNation customer shortly after moving to Terre Haute in 1991.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my two decades of selling books in downtown Terre Haute,” Nation said. “I’ve met so many great people and seen the downtown neighborhood change for the better. However, the book business has also changed a lot over the years, and it’s now time for the shop to close.”

BookNation is open from 11 a.m. until at least 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Feb. 4. The shop will be open until at least 9 p.m. Feb. 3.
