Hospital to break grounds on Cork Center

MARSHALL, ILL. — Union Hospital will break ground on the new Cork Medical Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at 410 N. Second St., in Marshall.

The center will be a 12,000-square-foot state-of-the-art medical office building. The new facility will have space for physician offices, examination rooms, lab services, radiology and physical therapy.

Garmong Construction Services is building the facility with an expected completion date of summer 2012.

Union Hospital’s Foundation is financing the funding for the $2.7 million project. Burnsides Community Health Center donated the land in front of the current Cork Medical Center for the new building.

The current facility cost $500,000 to build and opened in 1972 after fundraising in the community and a generous donation of $250,000 from Alma Cork, who requested her husband’s name be the name of the clinic. It consisted of an emergency room, doctor offices and a pharmacy. Union Hospital has leased the facility since 1987.
