Organization offers training to low-income seniors

ROCKVILLE — Are you a senior citizen who wants and needs to work, but don’t have the skills needed to compete in today’s job market? Experience Works is nonprofit charitable organization that offers training and employment opportunities for low-income seniors 55 and older.

Learn if you qualify for the Experience Works program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Clinton Senior Citizens Center at 104 S. Third St.

Or come to the Rockville Public Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 16, 106 N. Market St., Rockville.

Participants with Experience Works are paid minimum wage while they train to learn updated job skills at local nonprofit and community organizations. They also get assistance creating resumes, coaching on interview skills, and learn to fill out online applications and conduct job searches.

Participants must meet income and county of residence guidelines.

“Seniors must compete with younger workers for the shrinking number of jobs still available,” says Robin Branch, employment and training coordinator for Experience Works based in Bloomington. “They frequently lack the computer skills and other types of training necessary to get those jobs.

More and more seniors are coming to us for training to get back into the work force.”
