Parke Chamber plans Networking at Noon

ROCKVILLE — The Parke County Chamber of Commerce will host Stephen (Steve) Key from the Hoosier State Press Association at their next Networking at Noon program set for Dec. 10. The program will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the new Thirty-Six Saloon banquet room in Rockville.

Key will be discussing the citizen’s right to know and how that right is protected by the state’s public access laws. His topics include the state’s Open Door Law, Access to Public Records Act and the state’s Office of Public Access Counselor. Key will also be available to answer specific questions about the laws or issues related to individual requests for information.

Key is general counsel for the Hoosier State Press Association, an organization which serves approximately 175 paid-subscription newspapers in Indiana. The HSPA has offered advice on legal questions for years to member newspapers on a wide range of topics, but predominantly questions concerning access to information. Key also represents the HSPA before the Indiana General Assembly, lobbying for the public’s freedom of information rights and the interests of the Indiana newspaper industry.

Prior to his return to school to earn his law degree, Key accumulated 13 years of experience working for newspapers. He was managing editor of the Noblesville Daily Ledger for two years and assistant news editor for the Daily Journal of Johnson County in Franklin for three years during those 13 years.

There is a fee for the lunch buffet, which will be served by Thirty-Six staff. Reservations are needed by Thursday. To make reservations, contact the Parke County Chamber of Commerce office at (765) 569-5565 or info@parkecountychamber.com.

The Networking programs are open to the public and are designed to provide community updates as well as opportunities for Chamber members to mix and mingle with potential customers and suppliers.
