The Oxford University Press recently published a book titled “International Development Law” written by Professor Rumu Sarkar, formerly of Terre Haute.

Professor Sir Elihu Lauterpacht wrote the forward of the book, which has also been praised by professors of international law. This book provides the reader with new perspective on the origins of global poverty, identifies legal impediments to sustainable economic growth and provides a better understanding of the challenges faced by the international community in resolving global poverty issues.

Rumu Sarkar is the daughter of doctors Anil K. and Dipa Sarkar, two retired physicians in Terre Haute. Rumu Sarkar grew up in Terre Haute, attending Terre Haute South Vigo High School. She graduated with honors from Barnard College and received her Juris Doctor from Antioch School of Law at age 22. She also went to Newnham College, Cambridge University and received her Master of Laws and doctorate degrees.

She is a long-term member of the adjunct faculty of the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. She served as a General Counsel for the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC). She is now working as the senior legal adviser to CALIBRE Systems, a defense consulting firm in Alexandria, Va.

Sarkar lives in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Miranda Goodale presented on the federal requirements for electronic medical records at the 2009 Indiana Podiatric Medical Association Annual Conference in Indianapolis earlier this month.
