Corrections superintendent receives award
CARLISLE — Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner Edwin Buss has honored Superintendent Bruce Lemmon with the prestigious Distinguished Service Award.
The honor was presented during a special ceremony Wednesday in Evansville, site of the Indiana Correctional Association Fall Conference.
Superintendent Lemmon began his IDOC career in 1976 and has held numerous positions, including director of Indianapolis Men’s Work Release, regional director of Adult Facilities, deputy commissioner of Administration and deputy commissioner of Re-Entry. He is a graduate of Indiana State University.
For the past year Lemmon has been doing double duty, serving as superintendent of both Wabash Valley and the Putnamville Correctional facilities. Buss has named Sullivan County resident James Basinger as the new Wabash Valley superintendent.
Lemmon said he is highly appreciative of being honored with the Distinguished Service Award, adding, “I would much rather talk about how proud I am of the Department, my staff and our facilities, all contributing to the success of offenders preparing for a successful return to society.”

Union Hospital receives Hospital of Choice honor
Union Hospital was honored for the second year in a row with an AAHCP Hospital of Choice Award for the winter quarter of 2010 in Category III (hospitals with more than 300 but less than 500 licensed beds). Only 10 hospitals across the nation received the award in this category, with Union Hospital being the only recipient in Indiana.
