Bethany House receives $18,000 in tax credits

TERRE HAUTE — This year, Bethany House in Terre Haute has been awarded more than $18,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits by the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority to be used to provide temporary housing, case management and support to single women, married couples and families.

Unlike a tax deduction, NAP credits are applied to Indiana state tax liability — the bottom line taxes owed after all deductions are taken. For every dollar given ($100 minimum) to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute for its emergency shelter program at Bethany House, people may receive up to 50 percent of the contribution as a direct tax credit on their Indiana state income taxes. However, only a limited number of credits are still available for 2012.

Additionally, because Catholic Charities is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 organization, a NAP contribution may also be taken as a federal tax deduction.

For more information on how to take advantage of NAP credits, contact Jennifer Buell at 812-232-1447.
