Edgar County, Ill., Sheriff Edward Motley recently attended the prestigious Chief Executive Officer Training Seminar, conducted at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va.
After receiving an invitation to attend the specifically designed training seminar for law enforcement executives and 911 emergency center managers, Motley attended the program on Jan. 22-23 as a guest of the NCMEC.
Motley joined 50 other chiefs, sheriffs, and 911 emergency managers who were also selected and invited to attend the 131st session of the CEO course and is now one of more than 5,000 who have completed the training.
The Missing and Exploited Children Seminar for Chief Executives was designed to provide attendees like Motley a better understanding of the issue of missing and sexually exploited children — and how to specifically deal with the situation of a child who’s been reported missing — when time is critical.
“This has been one of the most valuable experiences for me in my [25] years in law enforcement office,” Motley said. “To have been selected in itself, was an honor to be able to bring this knowledge home and put it into practice, is a plus for the citizens of Edgar County, Ill.”
The Indiana State Bar Association sponsored “Why Lincoln Was a Lawyer,” a statewide community outreach program that matches lawyers with local schools on Friday. The event was an opportunity for attorneys to speak in classrooms about Lincoln’s life, career and the impact he made on this nation.
“I believe we can all learn more from Lincoln the lawyer — and Lincoln the president,” said ISBA President C. Erik Chickedantz. “In homage to his life traveling a city-to-city circuit providing legal help, the Indiana State Bar is proud to lead this program.”
John Wilkinson, an attorney at Lind Law Firm in Terre Haute, spoke at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School on Friday.
