TERRE HAUTE —
The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year.
Last year alone, consumers reported paying more than $1.7B in fraud complaints.
Since January of 2000, reported identity thefts have increased by more than 800 percent, according to the Commission. Of these identity thefts, 50 percent reported between 2007 and 2009 affected Americans between the age of 40 and 59.
That is why The Valley Investment Group is hosting a free community seminar entitled “Protect Your Identity” based on the Federal Trade Commission’s identity theft protection information. This seminar will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Vigo County Public Library.
The special speaker will be former special deputy to the Sullivan County Sherriff’s Department, Pam Hodge.
Refreshments will be provided and all materials are free.
