Attend seminars on starting a business in Illinois

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — SCORE and the Business Solutions Center will be hosting seminars on starting a business in Illinois. Topics that will be covered will include: analyzing your personal financial situation, evaluating your business concept, finding your market, establishing operational strategies, creating financial statements and obtaining the funding necessary to make your business idea a reality.

A study by the U.S. Small Business Administration found that 80 percent of all small businesses fail in the first five years. The top reasons for failure are inexperienced management of day-to-day operations, insufficient capital for startup and backup costs, and inadequate business planning.

Cost for this event is $25 per person and $35 per couple; registration is required by the day of the seminar. Registration is available online at  cats.eiu.edu/bscRegistration/workshops.asp.

Seminars are scheduled:

• Casey, 6 to 9 p.m. March 25 at Casey-Westfield High School, 306 E. Edgar Ave., Room 108 (in new addition). Instructor is Ted Ostrem.

• Sullivan, 6 to 9 p.m. April 8 at First Christian Church, Route 121. Visit www.fccsullivan.org/directions.htm. Instructor is Dave Arseneau.

• Paris, 6 to 9 p.m., May 4 at First Bank of Paris, 101 S. Central. Instructor is Stan Thurman.
