LINTON —
Ivy Tech Community College-Wabash Valley recently leased a building at 140 N. Main St. in Linton, where it has relocated its Ivy Tech Community College Cooperative. The Cooperative was formerly housed at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City.
The building in Linton is a two-story structure, the ground level of which will be used for Ivy Tech’s instructional site. The space measures approximately 1,142 square feet and is comprised of a classroom/lab, a tutoring area, a testing room, a visitor’s area, a receptionist’s area and a commons area for students.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the community is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the new location.
Rene Hankins, executive director of Secondary Initiatives and Outreach, explained that the opportunity to lease this property had many positives that could not be overlooked. “This move gives us a more central location [on Main Street only a half block off of Indiana 54], a more readily accessible facility for our students and the community and a property with a building next door that may provide us with further expansion options in the future. We have enjoyed our relationship with WRV and will continue to have strong partnerships with all of the schools in our service areas in the future.,” Hankins said.
“We are extremely excited to have Ivy Tech Community College as a new tenant in downtown Linton. The college presents new opportunities for all Greene County residents,” said Jeff Doris, president, Linton Redevelopment. “Ivy Tech as a whole fits the profile of what we are looking for to grow our community. This is another big step in the right direction for our overall Linton Downtown Community Revitalization Plan.”
Fall classes begin on Aug. 20. Robin Stader, site coordinator for Ivy Tech Community College Cooperative, is eager to tell interested parties about the courses that will be offered at the new facility.
