  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

TERRE HAUTE — MillerWhite Marketing announces the addition of Jennifer Lewellyn as its newest account executive. She will assist with the marketing needs of local companies and statewide higher education, healthcare and manufacturing clients.

Most recently, Lewellyn was the associate director of the Indiana State University Alumni Association. Her responsibilities there included the planning and management of all signature events, Alumni Board of Directors communications and relations and advising the student leadership group, the Sycamore Ambassadors.

Lewellyn graduated from Purdue University in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. During her career, she has held various positions in human resources including recruiting, benefit management and training and education. She is a graduate of Class 33 of Leadership Wabash Valley and also completed Leadership ISU.  

Jacqui Ellis of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Greencastle and Terre Haute has achieved the professional designation of Accredited Asset Management Specialist.

Ellis successfully completed the Accredited Asset Management Specialist, or AAMS, Professional Education Program from the Denver-based College for Financial Planning. Those who complete the program, pass a final exam and sign a code of ethics and disclosure form earn the AAMS designation.

This advanced training offers investment professionals the hands-on information needed to provide comprehensive financial services. Study topics include understanding the asset management process to understanding asset allocation and strategies.

Otolaryngology specialist Fred Drake, M.D., has been elected to serve on the ISMA Board of Trustees as an alternate trustee. After completing a one-year term, he now begins a three-year term on the board that will end in 2015. A graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, the specialist is on the staff of UAP Otolaryngology.

An ISMA member since 1978, Drake represents the ISMA’s 5th District that includes Clay, Parke, Putnam, Vermillion and Vigo counties. The organization is divided into 13 Indiana districts and representatives from each area comprise the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Drake was sworn along with other ISMA leaders on Sept. 16 during the ISMA’s 163rd Annual Convention in downtown Indianapolis. Currently, the ISMA has approximately 7,900 physician members from every county in the state. The convention allows delegates from those counties to not only elect leaders, but also to set an action agenda for the coming year.

Since 1849, the physician association has worked to promote sound health care policy in the public, private and governmental sectors and to support continuing medical education for Indiana doctors.

The Wedding Industry Experts Awards has honored Janice Board of Spectacular Soirees Wedding & Event Planning with the following awards: Best Wedding Planner for Terre Haute, Indiana, the Best Wedding Planner for Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Best Wedding Planner in the State of Indiana.

The awards are an annual competition recognizing some of the most popular wedding vendors who produce quality weddings and events at a local, national and international level. Each vendor had a vote page that showed the category they were nominated for and a description of their business.

There were 30 categories, including everything from best accessories to best wedding planner.   

Spectacular Soirees serves Terre Haute, Indianapolis and surrounding areas, and also some out-of-state clients.

Stormy Buchanan, owner of Just like Mom Daycare in Terre Haute, has recently been awarded a National Accreditation from the National Association for Family Child Care.

“I pursued NAFCC Accreditation because of the highest quality standards and I feel the standards reflect a level of quality through a process that examines all aspects of the family child care program,” Buchanan said.

Buchanan has been providing care in her home for eight years. She serves children infant to 12 years, from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., participates in the USDA Adult & Child Food Program, and uses the Creative Curriculum.

“Being Accredited will benefit the children and families by high level of quality through relationships, the environment, developmental learning activities, safety and health,” Buchanan said.

NAFCC offers accreditation to providers across the country, aiding them in raising their standards of quality care and gaining them the respect and recognition they deserve for their commitment to quality and children. The accreditation was made possible for Buchanan through a grant from TEACH.

The city of Terre Haute benefits from accreditation as it is an indicator that quality care is available for parents in this community. Children benefit from accreditation as it indicates they will be cared for in a safe, nurturing environment and that their educational needs will be met.

In addition to being a member of NAFCC, Bush is a member of National Association for the Education of Young Children and Community Alliance and Services for Young Children.

Sarah Rodie Andreason of Pittsburgh has been promoted to advanced manufacturing engineering manager at Alcoa Aluminum Pittsburgh.

Andreason is a 2004 graduate of West Vigo High School and a 2008 graduate of Indiana State University, with a mechanical engineering degree.

She is the daughter of Frank and Eleanor Rodie, and the granddaughter of Jim and Joan Porter of West Terre Haute.

Her husband, Nathan, is health plan coordinator with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is the son of Dr. Hans and Cindy Andreason of Terre Haute.
