Laura Land of Terre Haute has received the highest recognition given to a Kroger associate, the 2012 President’s Award. Land is a district human resources coordinator.
According to Kroger Central Division President Bob Moeder, “Laura began her career as a co-manager in 1997. She was promoted to store manager in 2002 and then opened a new store in 2004. For the past four years Laura has served as a district coordinator. She models our core values, is a green leader who is looked to for guidance and counsel. Laura has coached, taught and mentored many associates, and always is looking for an opportunity to make those around her even better.
“During 2011 she led her district team to an improvement of over $750,000 in shrink [waste] savings and also led the charge on overtime control. Laura is quick to help others whenever a need arises, whether it is personally helping stores or just listening to an associate in need. She is very active in her community, volunteering at Race for the Cure, Special Olympics and many other events. She serves on the board of directors of Catholic Charities’ regional food bank in Terre Haute, where she shares her time, talents and her own resources. Laura is a great asset to our Kroger team who often times puts the needs of others in front of her own.”
American Senior Communities, a statewide provider of Senior Rehabilitation and Memory Care, recently honored key employees, including a Terre Haute man, with the coveted Quest for Excellence Award.
Dave Thomas, maintenance supervisor at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, received the award because he demonstrated a commitment to excellence, dedication to his job, a positive attitude, and a “whatever it takes” passion for customer service. Based upon these key performance areas, he was among 62 highly qualified employees statewide selected by their peers to represent their buildings.
Bryanna Hughes-Wegner, also of Springhill Village, was named Clinical Leader of the Year.
They were honored at an exclusive dinner at The Fountains in Carmel, which included a speech by four-time Olympian Ruben Gonzalez.
“This year’s Quest for Excellence Award recipients serve as examples of what a strong work ethic and passion for excellence can accomplish for a company,” said Dan Benson, chief operating officer for American Senior Communities. “These exceptional employees have a strong impact on our company, not only in the quality of care they provide to our residents, but also by their unsurpassed commitment to customer service. We recognize these employees because they represent the spirit of the core principles and values of American Senior Communities. As a service industry, our greatest resource is our employees.”
Benson also stated that “these employees are truly the physical representation of excellence and this award validates all of the efforts they’ve put into serving our customers. They are truly an inspiration for all others in the health care industry to follow.”
American Senior Communities is Indiana owned and operated, serving Hoosiers for more than a decade.

The result was a game he called Criss Cross Words, renamed 10 years later as Scrabble. In honor of Scrabble’s 75th anniversary, we’d like to challenge you to a word puzzle.
