--- — Design firm Carr & Associates has won a Silver award in the Room Addition category of Qualified Remodeler’s Master Design Awards. For 34 years, this competition has recognized remodelers, architects, builders, kitchen and bath specialists and other professionals for outstanding project design and construction. Contest winners will be featured in the September issue of Qualified Remodeler.

Carr & Associates’ winning design was an addition that increased the main level of a home by 679 square feet and added a full bath with a custom-tiled shower in the attic loft space provided. Among the design features are hardwood cherry floors with interior column millwork on the main level and curved eaves on the outside of the addition. Challenging aspects of the project included matching existing exterior detail and roofline so the addition looked like it had always been a part of the home and ensuring that construction had a minimal impact on the client’s beautifully landscaped property.

Dan Carr, who has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, established Carr & Associates in Terre Haute in June 2004. The business and showroom are at 501 W. Honey Creek Drive. For more information call 812-235-7900.

I like to complain as much as anybody else. In truth, I may do more than my share of finding fault and wagging a finger in warning. Nonetheless, I’m tired of commentators (including many economists) who find nothing good and only the darkest clouds for the past few months.
