UPDATE: Victim of Tuesday shooting dies

TERRE HAUTE — One man has died as the result of a shooting Tuesday afternoon at the Days Inn off Margaret Avenue on the city’s southside.

Terre Haute Police are continuing to look for the suspected shooter, who may have ties to other areas of the state.

Assistant Chief Shawn Keen told the Tribune-Star this morning that the case has now turned into a homicide investigation.

“We hope this afternoon we can make a statement about this case,” Keen said. Investigators plan to meet with Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt to decide on charges in the case.

At that time, police may release the names of the suspect and the victim, Keen said.

On Tuesday, Keen stated that the suspect was a black male.

The victim was hospitalized at a local hospital and initially was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound. He later died of his injury. Police had reported that the victim had been shot once, but declined to say where.

Police responded to reports of a shooting just after noon and found the victim in the parking lot of the hotel.
