TERRE HAUTE —
An initial hearing on an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor has been set for Tuesday morning for former professional boxer Terry Ray.
Ray, 46, of Terre Haute, turned himself in at the Vigo County jail at about 11 a.m. today after an arrest warrant was issued by Judge David Bolk in Vigo Superior Court 3. He was released at 11:25 a.m. after posting bail of $3,000 cash on a $30,000 bond.
The allegations stem from a Feb. 13 incident at Ray’s home in the Garden Quarter. According to a probable cause affidavit submitted Friday to the court by Special Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter, the victim was 14 years old at the time that Ray allegedly kissed her at a party in his home where minors were consuming alcohol.
The victim has spoken to police about the incident, and three other teenagers also told police they witnessed the victim and Ray dancing and “french kissing,” according to the probable cause affadavit.
Ray is a former World Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion and a veteran of several nationally televised bouts. He is employed by the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute.
Sexual misconduct with a minor is a class-C felony, punishable by 2 to 8 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
