INDIANAPOLIS — Todd Sturgeon is stepping down as men's basketball coach at Indianapolis and will be replaced in the interim by assistant coach Royce Waltman, a former Greyhounds head coach.
Sturgeon, who was 151-126 in 10 seasons at Indianapolis, cited personal reasons in announcing his resignation.
Athletic director Sue Willey appointed Waltman as interim head coach. The school said it would conduct a national search for a new coach at the end of the season.
Waltman rejoined Indianapolis in July after his contract was not renewed in March by Indiana State after going 134-164 in 10 seasons.
Waltman was head coach at Indianapolis during 1992-97, compiling an 89-49 record. Sturgeon was his assistant coach at the time. Sturgeon also was Waltman's assistant for four seasons at DePauw.
The Greyhounds play in exhibition Nov. 1 at Purdue and open their regular season Nov. 15 at home against Brescia (Ky.)
