TERRE HAUTE — Vigo County Council President Robert Hellmann has died, according to friends of his family.
Hellmann had been battling cancer.
A long time figure in local and state politics, Hellmann served several terms in the Indiana General Assembly including time as the senate minority leader, the highest ranking Democrat in the Indiana Senate.
