Grand jury indicts 2 Pacers players in bar fight

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley and teammate Marquis Daniels were charged Wednesday in a fight at a bar earlier this month.

A Marion County grand jury indicted Tinsley on a felony charge of intimidation and misdemeanor counts of battery, disorderly conduct and intimidation for the Feb. 6 fight at 8 Seconds Saloon, said Matthew Symons, spokesman for the Marion County prosecutor.

Daniels was charged with battery and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors, Symons said.

No one was immediately arrested or charged after the fight, which happened hours after a home loss to Golden State, police said. Instead, a grand jury was convened to examine the evidence and decide whether charges should be filed.

The Indianapolis police report said the bar manager of the 8 Seconds Saloon told officers that Tinsley had threatened to kill him during the fight. The manager might have suffered a fractured jaw and severed earlobe, police said.

The confrontation with the players followed another fight involving a person who employees thought was trying to steal coats from the coat check area, police said.

Both players have since issued statements denying their involvement.

Symons said Tinsley and Daniels were expected to turn themselves into authorities Wednesday night or early Thursday. The Pacers play a home game Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks.

A message left with a Pacers spokesman was not immediately returned Wednesday.
