Valley woman wins ISDA Photo Contest

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Agriculture in Indianapolis recently announced a Greene County resident as one of 13 winners of the 2012 Indiana State Department of Agriculture Photo Contest.

Amanda Hale of Bloomfield took first place in the conservation category with her entry of a stalk of corn titled “Stressed.” An amateur photographer, Hale said she has been taking photos as a hobby for about five years and that this is her first major contest win.

Hale’s and other winning entrants’ photographic talents will be celebrated at the 2012 Indiana State Fair. Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, secretary of agriculture and rural development, and Indiana Agriculture Director Joe Kelsay will honor the winners during the Celebration of Agriculture event starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Farmer’s Day) in the upper level of the Normandy Barn. Winning photos will be on display on the main floor of the Normandy Barn throughout the State Fair.

Judges chose 12 overall winners, with first through third places given in four different categories. They also chose one winner for the Indiana Agriculture Calendar cover photo.

The photo entries were evaluated based on relevance to the categories and overall impression.

The winning photographs will be framed and featured in ISDA’s offices and in the 2013 Indiana Agriculture Calendar, a joint project with Hoosier Ag Today and Indiana Farm Bureau.

To view all the winning photos, go to the ISDA Facebook page and look at the 2012 Photo Contest Album.

All contest submissions will be considered for future ISDA publications, websites and newsletters, and will be made available to agriculture and conservation organizations statewide for their use.
