81st Vigo County Fair to feature truck and tractor pull, game shows

TV game prize is new truck

TERRE HAUTE — The action is heating up already at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds, as planning is under way for the 81st annual fair.

Jennifer Cook, president of the Wabash Valley Fair Association, was among the leaders hosting a welcome night Thursday to explain this year’s featured events.

Noting that last year the fair broke attendance records with more than 100,000 coming through the gates, Cook said, “I certainly hope to have at least that many again this year.”

This year’s fair runs July 11 through 17. Grandstand events will feature the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League’s Truck and Tractor Pulls on opening night, followed by Demolition Derby on Monday. Tuesday night will feature the game “Minute to Win It,” in which participants vie for a new Toyota Tundra and thousands of dollars, while Wednesday night features Spring Week Races. More Demolition Derby action is in store Thursday, and the Boot City Championship IPRA Rodeo will be Friday night. Motocross caps off the week Saturday night.

In addition to the grandstand lineup, the Terre Haute Rex baseball team will sign autographs Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. will be military day. The Colts In Motion tour will arrive at the fairgrounds Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
