NEW: Potential foe Daniels greets Obama on Indiana arrival

INDIANAPOLIS — President Barack Obama has arrived in Indianapolis, where Gov. Mitch Daniels was among those meeting him at the airport.

Daniels is considering whether to enter the race for the Republican nomination against Obama next year and today’s greeting was the first time he’s met Obama during any of his five trips to Indiana since becoming president.

Obama and Daniels spoke for a few minutes after he stepped off Air Force One in a group that also included Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and Butler University basketball coach Brad Stevens.

Obama then jogged over to shake hands with some members of the public who came to watch the president’s arrival before his motorcade left for a speech at an Allison Transmission plant on the city’s west side.

Indiana trips by President Barack Obama since taking office in January 2009:

— Feb. 2, 2009: Speaks about federal economic stimulus plan during a town hall event at Concord High School in Elkhart.

— May 17, 2009: Delivers commencement address at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, an appearance that drew protests from abortion opponents. Then travels to Indianapolis for two Democratic Party fundraisers.

— Aug. 5, 2009: Visits Monaco RV factory in Wakarusa and announces $2.4 billion in grants for electric car production.

— Nov. 23, 2010: Speaks at a Chrysler transmission factory in Kokomo about how the auto industry restructuring helped save jobs in the city.

— May 6, 2011: Travels to an Allison Transmission factory in Indianapolis and speaks about how the hybrid transmissions made there can help reduce the country’s need for imported oil.
