Trio caught on video robbing convenience store

TERRE HAUTE — Police are seeking three suspects in an early Tuesday armed robbery at the Express Mini Mart in the 1800 block of North Third Street at Maiden Lane.

“It’s a pretty violent takeover,” Detective Jeff Trotter of the Terre Haute Police Department said Tuesday.

Police are culling details from a video of the robbery they have obtained.

In one view, the three suspects can be seen entering the convenience store with the first suspect holding the door open while two others rush inside to overpower the attendant and another person behind the checkout counter. One person jumps onto and over the counter while another rushes in with a baseball bat to overwhelm the employees.

In another view of the robbery, taken from a video camera that films action behind the counter, police see one of the suspects as he takes numerous items from a display rack. Another suspect empties the cash register while the third person armed with the baseball bat keeps the two victims on the floor.

Police also have an audio recording of the robbery with samples of the suspects’ voices.

“Each one of them had a role to play in the robbery,” Trotter pointed out after showing the video segments during a press conference.

The suspects are believed to be white males, ranging in height from about 5-feet-6-inches to about 5-feet-9-inches.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call THPD at (812) 238-1661.
