Northview at West Vigo
Kickoff — 7:30 p.m.
Airwaves — None planned in the Wabash Valley.
Records — West Vigo’s Vikings take a 4-3 record overall and 3-1 conference mark into this crucial Western Indiana Conference game against rival Northview. The Knights are 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the WIC.
Last meeting — Northview won 27-10 in 2011.
Last time West Vigo beat Northview — The Vikings won 14-13 in 2008.
Coaches — Jeff Cobb is 44-40 in his 8th year at West Vigo. George Gettle is 68-40 in his 11th year with Northview.
Outlook — So far, the Vikings have lost at Evansville Harrison 52-7 — a win by forfeit — lost to Greencastle 44-0, won at Brown County 40-19, lost at Linton 40-0, won at South Vermillion 41-21, topped Edgewood at home 26-8 and then lost 41-20 at Owen Valley.
The Knights have lost 18-9 to Indianapolis Broad Ripple, won at Edgewood 20-13, lost at Terre Haute North 55-0, lost 35-0 at Sullivan, beat Owen Valley 20-19, lost 22-3 at Vincennes Lincoln and beat South Vermillion 54-6.
Injuries, lineups — For West Vigo, senior offensive lineman/linebacker Ethan Boatman Offensive lineman Alex May (offensive lineman) (muscle pull) is out this week.
Coaches’ comments — Cobb on the Knights: “They’re a typical Northview team, very big across the offensive and defensive lines. “They’ve had some good games [recently]. They’re extremely young so it’s taken a while for them to get up to speed.”
Cobb on his Vikings: “Very disappointing [loss last week]. We played a good first half. Seems like everything that could go wrong did go wrong in the second half. Poor tackling at times. Some bad mistakes at offense.
“I think getting back home, we’re recognizing the 2002 undefeated team before the game. A lot of former players coming back for that.”

Terre Haute South at Warren Central
Kickoff — 7:30 p.m.
Airwaves — None planned in the Wabash Valley.
Records — The Terre Haute South Braves (2-5 overall, 0-5 MIC) will visit the Class 5A No. 10-ranked Warren Central Warriors (3-4, 2-3) for a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference matchup.
Last meeting — In October 2011, South lost at home to Warren Central 55-13.
Last time South beat Warren Central — On Sept. 17, 1999, South won at home over Warren Central 55-21.
Coaches — Mark Raetz is 14-43 in his sixth season at South, while Steve Tutsie is 26-8 in his third year at Warren Central.
Outlook — So far, South has won at Indian Creek 34-24, lost to Terre Haute North 27-10 at Memorial Stadium, won at Vincennes Lincoln 34-0, lost at Carmel 38-0, lost at Center Grove 55-28, lost at home to Ben Davis 30-13 and lost at home to Indianapolis North Central 24-8.
Meanwhile, Warren Central has defeated Merrillville 35-7, lost at home to Indianapolis Cathedral 14-7, won at home over Lawrence North 66-7, lost at home to Ben Davis 6-3, won at Indianapolis North Central 28-14, lost at Terre Haute North 14-10 and lost to Carmel 10-7 in overtime at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Injuries, lineups — For South, senior center Zac Harper (torn ACL) and senior wide receiver Logan Steward (torn ACL) are out for the season. Some key starters include senior quarterback Danny Etling, junior guard/defensive tackle Junior Berry and senior wide receiver Tyler Seibert.
For Warren Central, all regulars appear healthy. Some key starters include senior linebacker Tim Kimbrough, senior defensive tackle Kris Davis and senior quarterback Anthony Cooper-Taylor.
Coaches’ comments — Raetz on his squad: “Last week [against North Central] was a tough game for us. I thought defensively we played pretty well for the most part. Offensively and special teams-wise, we had some critical breakdowns that ended up costing us … Really, outside of the Center Grove game, we’ve played pretty well defensively.”
Raetz on playing the Warriors: “Warren, as usual, has a lot of speed, a lot of size and a lot of good players, especially on the defensive side of the ball. What we’ve got to do is worry about what we have control over, which is our execution, our overall effort and our focus. If we do that, we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
Tutsie on his squad: “We played very well last week [against Carmel]. We outplayed them, but we didn’t outplay them on the scoreboard. This business is about wins and losses, so we’ve got to get a win.”
Tutsie on playing the Braves: “Their quarterback [Etling] got his [college] offer last year based on our game. He can make all the throws and he’s a tough kid. He stays in the pocket … He will definitely be successful at the next level.”

Carmel at Terre Haute North
Kickoff — 7 p.m.
Airwaves — No broadcasts are scheduled.
The action — Carmel’s Greyhounds (7-0, 5-0 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference), defending Class 5A state champions, come to Terre Haute to face North’s Patriots (4-3, 3-2) in a Senior Night game for the home team. Carmel, coming off a 10-7 overtime win over Warren Central on Saturday night, is ranked first in the state and has been all season. North, a 45-13 winner at Lawrence North last Friday, is ranked 11th.
Last meeting — Carmel won 63-0 last season at Carmel.
Last time North beat Carmel — The Patriots won 27-18 in 2005, and also beat the Greyhounds in 1997 and 1999.
Coaches — Kevin Wright is 30-3 in his third season at Carmel, 165-57 overall. Chris Barrett is 42-73 in his 12th season at North and 70-105 overall.
Outlook — Like most of the MIC, Carmel seems stronger on the defensive side of the ball than the offensive side this season. Unlike many Carmel teams, this year’s Greyhounds rely more on quickness than size and strength. North will try to establish control of the line of scrimmage and not attempt much fancy stuff; this is one season in which the Patriots are the bigger team, although as always the Greyhounds are the deeper one.
Injuries, lineup changes — Wright was concerned early in the week about recovery time for some of his players after a physical game against Warren Central. Best player for the visitors might be 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker John Kenny. All the Patriots are expected to be available.
Words from Wright — “You can’t say we’re not resilient. We preach not quitting, playing to the last play [of the game] and focusing on what’s in front of you instead of what’s in the past. Most of the [Warren Central] game they had us pinned back on our side of the field … special teams was what it came down to.
“[North] is the best Terre Haute team I’ve played against since I’ve been in the MIC [which also includes several seasons at Warren Central in addition to the three years at Carmel]. They’re the biggest team in the MIC, they have good athletes, speed, outstanding players, they’re a senior tem and they’re very well coached. We’ll treat this like a playoff game.”
Words from Barrett — “I thought we played hard and did what we wanted to do [at Lawrence North]. We still had a continuation of penalties and unforced mistakes, and we’ve got to eliminate those things.
“Carmel is extremely fast on both sides of the ball. Defensively they always have eight or nine players around the ball, and their offense executes and doesn’t make mistakes.”
