TERRE HAUTE —
Hoosier Aviation, the aircraft service business at Terre Haute International Airport-Hulman Field, will host an open house on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Four World War II vintage aircraft will be on display and flying during the day. The B-25 “Show Me” from the Missouri Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) will be the ramp in Terre Haute for the day. “Visitors will have a chance to get up close and personal with the aircraft made famous by the Doolittle Raid during WWII,” said B-25 pilot, Jordan Brown. “That attack changed the course of World War II, and provided the first big morale booster for the U.S. fight in the Pacific.”

In addition to the B-25, The CAF Red Tail Squadron P-51C Mustang, one of only two flying today, will be on display.
As a lead in to the Saturday Open House, the CAF Red Tail RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will be at Hulman Field Oct 4 and 5, and Oct. 6 during the open house. The RISE ABOVE presentation reflects the CAF Red Tail Squadron's educational mission of showing people - especially young people - how it is possible to set a goal and succeed even when the odds are against you. The exhibit presents a wonderful film about the challenges overcome by the Tuskegee Airmen and how we can learn their lessons for our lives. The Theater will operate Oct. 4 and 5 from noon to 6 p.m., and on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Also during open house on Oct. 6, visitors will have the opportunity to support the programs at Union Hospital's Hux Cancer Center by “dropping a bomb on cancer.” For $20, $15 of which will go to the Hux Cancer Center through the Union Hospital Foundation, individuals can fly in a real airplane with a fully certified flight instructor and drop a flour sack at a ground target. Prizes will be awarded for the best, the second best, and the worst bombardiers of the day. This is a fun way to support a great cause.
At noon Oct. 4, Mayor Duke Bennett will kick off the event by proclaiming Oct. 4-6 as Hoosier Aviation CAF Rise Above Aviation Days in Terre Haute. Then on Oct. 5 at 3 p.m., Quentin Smith, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, will visit the Red Tails exhibit. Smith will also be honored by ISU as a distinguished alumnus on Oct. 6 at the Homecoming football game.

Schedule of Events
• Oct 4, at noon. — The CAF Red Tails Traveling Exhibit ribbon cutting. Mayor Duke Bennett will perform the ribbon cutting and present a proclamation designating Oct 4-6 Hoosier Aviation CAF Red Tails Rise Above Aviation Days. Three WWII aircraft will be on display and the public will begin tours of the exhibit including viewing the Red Tails inspirational movie.
• Oct 5, at 10 a.m. — The CAF B-25, Show Me, is scheduled to arrive from St. Louis and will be at Hulman Field offering afternoon rides Oct. 5 and 6.
• Oct 5, at 5:15 p.m. — Quentin Smith, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, will tour the CAF Red Tails exhibit and the Red Tail P-51. Smith will also be honored at the ISU homecoming football game as a distinguished alumnus.
• Oct 6, 9 a.m. — The airport open house will open with a display of many vintage aircraft including at least five WWII vintage aircraft. The open house is free and open to the public.
• Oct 6, at about 2:20 p.m. —Three of the WWII aircraft, the B-25, the P-51, and the T-6, will start engines and depart Hulman Field to perform the ISU homecoming game flyover. The sounds, sights, and smells of these vintage engines is unlike anything from today's aircraft. The are scheduled to fly over the stadium at 2:51 p.m.
