A closer look at some of tonight’s games:
Sullivan at West Vigo
Kickoff — 7 p.m.
Airwaves — The game will be broadcast on WNDI-FM 95.3, with pregame starting at 6 p.m.
The action — Sullivan’s Golden Arrows (6-2, 5-0 Western Indiana Conference) bring a six-game winning streak to Jay Barrett Field where West Vigo’s Vikings (5-3, 4-1) still have a chance to share the conference championship. It’s a situation similar to the 2003 season, when undefeated West Vigo went to Sullivan and lost 14-0, enabling the Arrows to gain a share of the title. “Maybe we’ll have a role reversal this time,” coach Jeff Cobb of West Vigo — an assistant coach with the Vikings in 2003 — said hopefully this week. That 2003 season was the last share of the WIC championship for either team until this year, incidentally.
Last meeting — Sullivan won 59-35 last season.
Last time West Vigo beat Sullivan — West Vigo won 45-28 in 2009.
Coaches — Trent Olson is 28-30 in his sixth season at Sullivan, 46-54 in his 10th season overall. Cobb is 41-40 in his eighth season as head coach at West Vigo.
Outlook — West Vigo continues to evolve and improve offensively, but the Vikings still can’t match the firepower of a Sullivan offense led by quarterback Payne Fortner and running back Brooks Weszely. The Vikings may be a little stronger up front on both sides of the ball, however, which gives them a chance to control the ball and the clock offensively. Neither team can afford to turn the ball over.
Injuries, lineup changes — For Sullivan, offensive lineman Jon Sullivan has been out since the second week and will be tonight, although he has returned to practice. For West Vigo, linebacker Ethan Boatman and lineman Patrick McVey were lost for the season earlier in the year, and end/linebacker Derrick Bennett (knee) is questionable.
Words from Olson — “We’ve been on a little bit of a roll. We struggled early trying to put together an offensive line, but once we got that figured out we’ve been playing pretty well.
“[West Vigo is] a lot like us; they struggled early but they’ve come on strong — a physical defense and a very good running attack.”
Words from Cobb — “We’ve come a long way since the beginning of the season. The kids are more confident, more players have stepped up and our young kids are now veterans, which gives us some depth.
“I’m happy for coach Olson. He’s a great guy and a friend, and he’s put together a great team, especially with his skill kids. They have huge receivers, a three-year starter at quarterback … they’re very solid from top to bottom.

Lawrence North at Terre Haute South
Kickoff — 7:30 p.m.
Airwaves — None locally.
Records — Terre Haute South is 2-6 overall and 0-6 in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference. Lawrence North is 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the MIC.
Last meeting — Lawrence North won last season 31-28.
Last time South beat Lawrence North — The Braves won 17-14 in 2005.
Coaches — Mark Raetz is 14-44 in his sixth year at South. Tom Dilley is 45-59 in his 10th year at Lawrence North, 80-75 in his 14th year overall.
Outlook — The Braves and Wildcats are both looking for their first Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference victory of the season, battling to stay out of last place.
Raetz is looking for his first victory against the Wildcats in his five years as coach.
He’ll have a good shot against a Wildcats team allowing 59.4 points per game this season, while scoring 7.5 per game.
Lawrence North has been shut out four times this season, 70-0, 63-0, 77-0 and 75-0.
The Braves are led on the field by receiver Tyler Seibert, South’s leader in receptions and yards, defensive back Dillon Bell and offensive and defensive lineman Junior Berry.
Injuries, lineup changes — Danny Etling will be under center for the Braves after missing the final three quarters of action last week. Etling practiced all week after suffering an ankle injury against Warren Central.
A word from Raetz — “They’ve got some good athletes. They spread you out offensively and make you cover some ground.”
“Defensively, they do a good job of coming from different angles, bringing pressure from different areas. Coach Dilley’s a great coach. You’ve got to be ready to play.”
“We have to focus on what we have control over. If we can execute well on both sides of the ball and on special teams, we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
“They’ve beat us five straight years. Every year, I feel like they play a great game against us and have a great gameplan. It’s Senior Night. I think our kids will be ready to play. We’ve only had three home games all year. Hopefully guys will be ready to perform in front of home crowd for senior night.”

Terre Haute North at Indianapolis North Central
Kickoff — 7 p.m.
Airwaves — None in the Wabash Valley.
Records — The Terre Haute North Patriots (4-4 overall, 3-3 MIC) will visit the Indiana North Central Panthers (2-6, 2-4) for a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference matchup and regular-season finale for both teams.
Last meeting — On Oct. 14, 2011, Indianapolis North Central won at Terre Haute North 43-29.
Last time North beat North Central — On Oct. 15, 2010, North won at North Central 20-13.
Coaches — Chris Barrett is 42-74 in his 11th season in charge at North and 70-106 in his 18th season overall, while Keith Shelton is 11-28 in his fourth year at North Central.
Outlook — So far, North has lost at Castle 35-24, defeated Terre Haute South 27-10 at Memorial Stadium, won at home over Northview 55-0, lost at home to Center Grove 17-15, lost at Ben Davis 30-17, won at home over Warren Central 14-10, won at Lawrence North 45-13 and lost at home to Carmel 28-0.
Meanwhile, North Central has lost at home to Pike 23-6, lost at home to Lawrence Central 38-3, lost at Ben Davis 19-6, won at Lawrence North 31-12, lost at home to Warren Central 28-14, lost at Carmel 24-0, won at Terre Haute South 24-8 and lost at home to Center Grove 35-7.
Injuries, lineups — For North, no injury information was available. Some key starters include senior tight end/defensive end Calvin Blank, senior fullback/linebacker Lee Davis and senior wide receiver/defensive back Austin Lewis.
For North Central, all recent regulars appear healthy. Some key starters include senior defensive lineman/tackle Darius Latham (who has given a verbal commitment to Wisconsin), junior inside linebacker/reserve running back Jeff Harris and junior quarterback Michael Loggan.
Coaches’ comments — Shelton on his squad: “This year, our team has depended mostly on its defense. We’ve got a young offense that’s been trying to find its identity. A lot of the teams we play, they do a great job of showing you who you are and what you don’t do well.”
Shelton on playing the Patriots: “Chris Barrett does a great job with them. They’re hard-nosed. They fight tooth-and-nail for everything. I know they got a good win against Warren [Central]. They’re going to be a tough challenge.”
North coach Barrett could not be reached for comment.
