Swope celebrates holidays in conjunction with ‘Miracle’

TERRE HAUTE — In conjunction with Downtown Terre Haute’s Miracle on 7th Street, the Swope Art Museum will offer special demonstrations by artists and holiday performances to celebrate the season from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at its December First Friday.

“A Holiday Festival” will include holiday and classical music by harpist Madison Muncie, who is at the Swope in conjunction with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s performing arts series at Hatfield Hall. Muncie will perform classical and holiday music starting at 6:30 p.m.

Visitors can watch artist Stephanie Standish print relief holiday and greeting cards, learn about relief printing, and even try carving a linoleum block. Cards printed on site will be available for sale. Artist Christy Brinkman-Robertson will demonstrate the versatility of paper by folding and cutting a variety of paper stars for the holidays. Visitors are encouraged to try making a star themselves.

The Swope will also offer items for sale, including its new publication about its outstanding collection, “Swope Art Museum: Selected Works from the Collection,” by Laurette E. McCarthy. The Swope will also offer complimentary treats and a cash bar during the evening.

Admission is free.

The Swope is at 25 S. Seventh St.
