TERRE HAUTE —
Indiana State University’s Community School of the Arts will host a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the Turman Art Gallery on the first floor in the Fine Arts Building at 649 Chestnut St. On display in the Turman Gallery will be works of art by adults participating in the fall classes, “Figure Drawing” and “Ceramics.”
The “Figure Drawing” class emphasized proportion, measurement, value, gesture and likeness of the human body. Students were drawing from nude models using media including graphite pencil, charcoal and conté crayon. The “Ceramics” class introduced adults to the fundamental techniques and concepts of the ceramic arts. The emphasis of this class was the exploration of the ceramic medium as a material for creative expression. Functional and sculptural aspects of the medium were considered through the incorporation of hand building, wheel throwing, surface treatments and glazing techniques.
Today is the last day for viewing the exhibition. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This exhibition is free.
The Community School of the Arts, an ISU Unbounded Possibilities initiative, provides the communities of the Wabash Valley and surrounding areas the opportunity to participate in non-credit classes in music, theater and visual art. CSA welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds and ability levels to experience professional and affordable instruction in the performing and visual arts.
