Swope First Friday to feature ‘From the Rio Grande to the River Shannon’

TERRE HAUTE — Year Of The River celebrations continue at the Swope Art Museum with the March 1 First Friday, “From the Rio Grande to the River Shannon,” featuring the tapestry of the Rio Grande and the traditional Irish music of the group Women of Erin. The event will be open from 6 to 9 p.m.

Cathie Laska, a fiber artist and art teacher at Fuqua Elementary School, will explore the tapestry of the Rio Grande region, which she studied in New Mexico with the help of an Indiana Arts Commission grant. Laska also plays the fiddle for the Women of Erin.

Swope First Fridays are free and open to the public. First Fridays provide an opportunity to view the collection during evening hours, along with taking part in hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

The special exhibitions “Paradoxical Currents” by Ralph Larmann and “Rivers to Oceans: Selections from the Indiana State University Permanent Art collection” will be available to view.

For more information, call the museum at 812-238-1676 or visit www.swope.org.
