Shawnee Theatre to host popular Festival of Trees event

SWITZ CITY — The ninth annual Festival of Trees, a fundraiser for the Shawnee Theatre, once again will usher in the holiday season for Greene County. Admission is free.

The Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds Building in Switz City will be transformed into a winter wonderland from Nov. 16-25 with trees decorated in themes by volunteers with businesses, groups and individuals sponsoring each tree or decoration.

Both children and adults will enjoy the festival. There will be home cooking provided by the Litehouse Lunchbox and Matt’s Barbecue and a Country Store featuring books, toys, unique gift items and homemade candy by the Greene County Extension Home Economics Clubs. Santa Claus will visit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Saturdays.

As in years past, there will be an ongoing silent auction for the fully decorated trees and wreaths, with the final bids closing at 3 p.m. Nov. 25. All proceeds go to Shawnee Theatre.

The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays beginning Nov. 16 and continuing Nov. 17, 23, and 24. Sunday hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 and 25. The festival will also be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19, 20 and 22.

Additional sponsors or volunteers are welcome. The trees can be purchased and decorated by the sponsor or volunteers. For more information call Marlen Flynn at 384-7247, 863-9229 or Ann Gainey at 384-7176.

The fairgrounds are on U.S. 54, one mile east of Switz City, five miles west of Bloomfield, and one mile west of the 54 and 57/231 junction.
