Art Colony welcomes photographer, glass artist

Gaslight Art Colony welcomes artist/photographer John Tarble and glass artist Edith Acton during a reception from 6 to 9 p.m Saturday at the gallery in Marshall, Ill.

Tarble will be featuring his photographs of diesel and steam locomotives. He enjoys traveling with friends around the United States and finding scenic locations to take photos. Tarble has always enjoyed trains and photography, and this hobby combines both.

Acton is a world traveler who has always called Terre Haute “home.” She taught home economics for several years at Terre Haute high schools.

“I have always been a crafter, but after retiring I have found more time to develop more artistic work,” Acton said. “I find the closer I get to creating art from my own creative abilities, the more satisfied I am with the final product. For the past several years I have settled on fused glass as my medium to use for my artwork. It can be both the easiest and the most complex of mediums.

“It involves taking a piece of glass and some smaller cut pieces and designing a pleasing, visual form. Finally it is transformed by placing the glass arrangement in a kiln, applying intense heat, allowing it to soften, take a new shape, transition, finally to morph into a new object entirely.”

Gaslight Art Colony is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to broadening an appreciation of the arts by providing opportunities that promote awareness, participation and understanding through fine arts exhibitions, classes and workshops.

The gallery is at 516 Archer Ave. in Marshall. For more information call 217-808-2115, email gaslightartcolony@gmail.com or visit www.gaslightartcolony.com or Gaslight Art Colony on Facebook.
