The Big Party for The Big Read set

TERRE HAUTE — The Big Party for The Big Read will be at 7:30 p.m. on March 1 at the Vigo County Public Library. This year’s book, selected to support the 2013 Year of the River initiative, is “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain.

Dave Ehlert, a Branson performer, will portray author and humorist Twain. Costumes are optional, and there will be appetizers, music, a cash bar and free books. Required reservations are $5 and can be made by calling 812-232-1116 or 812-645-3631.

On March 2, a free “Tom and Huck” film will be shown at Community Theatre of Terre Haute, 1431 S. 25th St. The show will start at 1 p.m., and free books will be available. Enjoy the adventures of mischievous Tom and Huck as they witness a murder, discover a fortune and get lost in a cave. Families can talk about the themes of loyalty, friendship and doing what is right, even if it means breaking your word.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. For more information call 812-232-1116.
