Auschwitz survivor Eva Kor will celebrate her 79th birthday and observe the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz today in the CANDLES Holocaust Museum at 1532 S. Third St.

Free events include:

• 6 p.m. — a pizza party hosted by Kor

• 6:30 p.m. — Screening of Auschwitz liberation film

When Kor and her twin sister, Miriam, were liberated in 1945, the Soviet soldiers who liberated the camp gave them chocolate, cookies and hugs. Event attendees can partake in chocolates and cookies to help Kor commemorate the joyous moment when she was free from the Nazis.

“For me, it was an incredible moment to realize that my dream had come true, and we were finally free,” said Kor about the moment of liberation.

Kor intends for this event to be a celebration of life and the triumph of the human spirit.

It will conclude after she leads the audience in a Hora, a traditional and easy-to-learn Jewish dance of celebration.
