As the time ticks toward bedtime on New Year’s Eve and little eyes begin to droop, how do you fill the hours before midnight with entertainment for children? The Indiana State Museum makes New Year’s Eve easy for families to celebrate together.
The museum’s alcohol-free Family New Year’s Eve Celebration begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and lasts only until 9 p.m. — plenty of time to get the little ones back home and in bed before the real thing. It includes all the party must-haves: hats, magicians, stilt walkers, face painters and clowns as well as balloons, balloons and more balloons.
The Tides will perform family-friendly hits to get everyone in the party mood.
A cascade of 1,500 balloons dropped from the top of the massive Gov. Frank O’Bannon Great Hall will mark “midnight” at 8 p.m.
Special “Grab and Go” meal pricing will be available in the museum’s Canal Café.
Tickets for the celebration are $11 per person or $6 for museum members, and include admission to the galleries as well as activity and craft supplies for the kids. Reservations are recommended; call 317-232-1637.
The entire museum will be open during the party, so families can explore Indiana history in the core galleries or check in on Amazing Maize: The Science, History and Culture of Corn and Eternal James Dean. The holiday town of Celebration Crossing will be open, so kids can get their last ride of the season on the Santa Claus Express train.
