Children’s Museum transforms into Circus Spectacular for adults

Museum also plans circus-themed family day

TERRE HAUTE — Step right up — and prepare to be astounded and amazed as the Terre Haute Children’s Museum is transformed into a circus spectacular.

“A Night at the Museum: Circus Spectacular” will take place at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. This fundraising event will be a fantastic grown-up evening of play, and all proceeds will support the museum’s mission of enriching children’s lives through the exploration of science and technology.

During the event, the museum will be transformed into a circus, inviting patrons in playground-chic attire to travel down the midway, filled with circus performances and carnival games. Guests will savor circus-inspired cuisine at stations throughout the museum, and they’ll even get to enjoy an adult twist on the classic sno-cone.

Adults are invited to embrace their inner child as they experience the magic, mystery, laughter and thrills under the Terre Haute Children’s Museum Big Top. Hold your breath as you watch an aerial artist, magician and juggler perform incredible feats, and enjoy the power of laughter during performances by Pat Kelly, son of the great circus clown Emmett Kelly Sr.

Kelly Sr. created the memorable clown figure “Weary Willie” based on the hobos of the Depression era, and Pat Kelly has been carrying on his father’s legacy with his own hobo clown act for more than 50 years.

Tickets are $100 per person and will include food, entertainment and automatic entry into drawings for a variety of door prizes. Only 500 tickets will be available.

In addition, the museum will host a circus-themed family day, “Under the Big Top: The Science and Fitness of Circus!” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17.

Visitors can learn to juggle, spin plates in the air, and even walk a “tightrope” while being taught the health and science that makes it all possible — the physics behind the fun. The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will be jumping through hoops to stage a full day of circus wonder where families learn the theories of balance, centrifugal force, motion and gravity, while also educating their children about the importance of healthy eating and regular exercise.

Tickets for the Circus Spectacular event can be purchased at THCMCircus.eventbrite.com. Tickets for the family event will be available closer to the event date. For more information call 812-235-5548 or email info@terrehautechildrensmuseum.com.
