Auditions set for Children’s Theatre production

BLOOMINGTON — Children’s Theatre of Terre Haute Inc. will bring Mark Twain’s classic story “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” to musical life in this Broadway adaptation one of America’s favorite books. Auditions are open to children in grades 1-12 from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 4 and 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 5 at World of Dance, 800 W. Johnson Drive.

“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is the story of a 14-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. The Broadway musical adaptation of Twain’s novel is set in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Mo., a bustling town on the banks of the Mississippi River. In the course of the story, Tom matches wits with his stern Aunt Polly, falls in love with the beautiful, feisty Becky Thatcher, and goes on the adventure of his life with Becky and that irresistible renegade, Huckleberry Finn.

Along the way, audiences meet a terrifying villain named Injun Joe, Tom’s bratty half-brother, Sid, and all the other boys and girls in the village — providing one scene-stealing children’s role after the other.

As this fun-filled musical unfolds, share with Tom and his friends all of the rollicking and heart-stopping adventures found in Twain’s masterpiece, whether it’s Tom tricking his friends into white-washing the fence, crossing swords with schoolmaster, or getting lost in McDougal’s Cave.

The production will be filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs and is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration for the whole family.

“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” will be on stage March 8-10 at Harmony Hall, 1257 Lafayette Ave. Show times are 7 p.m. March 8 with matinees at 3 p.m. March 9 and 10. For information on tickets or participating in Children’s Theatre call 236-3193.
