Explore art as prayer Saturday with ‘Color My World’ program

TERRE HAUTE — “Color My World,” a spiritual program exploring color and art techniques as a form of prayer, is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

“I enjoy working with color and experiencing color in my life. I also enjoy the pleasure that comes to people when they realize that simple things can be a form of prayer,” said Sister Paul Bernadette Bounk, who will lead the workshop.

People of all faith traditions are invited to reflect on and experience the world of color, line, shape and imagination with Color My World, hosted by White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

The spiritual program is open to anyone looking to deepen their spirituality and explore their connectedness with creation in order to find a deeper understanding of God, Bounk said.

The program will incorporate water color, oil pastels, chalk and colored sand as it integrates the worlds of color and spirituality. No prior art experience is needed.

Cost is $75. Materials and lunch are included.

“Hopefully this will teach a way for participants in their own private prayer time to connect at a deeper level with God,” Bounk said.

Bounk recently celebrated 50 years as a Sister of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. She is an experienced retreat instructor and spiritual adviser.
