Art and River Chatter conversations kick off Feb. 28

TERRE HAUTE — Art Spaces, Inc. - Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection and Our Green Valley Alliance for Sustainability announce a series of informal conversations titled Art and River Chatter, which will take place throughout the year in collaboration with 2013 Year of the River. Each event will begin at 5:15 p.m. and will take place at Logan’s Rib Eye, 100 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute.

People of all ages are invited to come chat about art and the river, and get to know other people through lively discussion. Two presenters will kick off each evening by presenting images and ideas to get the conversation started. Beverages and food will be available for purchase from the restaurant.

Dates and discussion topics include:

Feb. 28: “Are We Here Because of the Wabash River?”

How has the Wabash River determined and affected peoples of all eras that have lived along it? Did earlier societies that embraced the river know something that we don’t know? Presenters will be Mike McCormick and Susan Petosky.

March 21: “What Does Art Have to do with Rivers? Part I”

Does art make science more accessible? How is art a solution to problems plaguing our rivers? How does art contribute to sustainability? Presenters will be Steve Letsinger and Stacy Levy.

April 25: “Who Crossed Here?”

There will be a discussion about some famous Wabash River crossings and how the river played a significant role in people’s lives, from Mother Theodore Guerin to transportation for the Underground Railroad. Presenters will be Sister Jan Craven and A. Theressa Bynum.

May 23: “What Does Art Have to do with Rivers? Part II”

What does the written word have to do with rivers and how we view, understand and appreciate them? Presenters will be Mark Minster and Tom Roznowski.

June 27: “Have You Been on the River?”

How can we boat, walk, run, fish, birdwatch along the Wabash — what are people discovering about the river through recreation? Presenters will be Brendan Kearns and Kara Kish.
