Gallery seeks artwork for regional exhibition

TERRE HAUTE — Halcyon Art Gallery announces an open call to Indiana Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin artists for applications in a regional exhibition.

“Halcyon Days” is the theme for the juried exhibition that will be on view in the Halcyon Art Gallery in Terre Haute March 1 to 29. The entry deadline is Feb. 16.

This is the eighth in a series of juried exhibitions that showcases the best of contemporary art in all media. The juror, Ray Chen, curator and executive director of exhibitions, has selected the theme.

Chen describes it this way: “Halcyon Days opens up a conversation that can be perceived as divisions between people and cultures. The communication shares the artistic language: conceptual as in the definition of a medium and the desire to strictly or loosely define an artistic form; an interpretation as a personal artistic language, a conversation to share, a massage to state, a movement of shadows to follow, colors unpredictably to change, visual reaction from tradition to contemporary, a choice, an action, visible, invisible, intention, expressive.”

Artists are invited to consider the broad concept of the theme, which is open to interpretation. Recent works in all media are encouraged. This is an open call to all artist 18 years or older.

The prospectus is now available at the Swope Art Museum (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays) and the Halcyon (from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday), at 25 S. Seventh St. It also can be downloaded at halcyonartgallery.com.
