Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will present “Animal Farm” by the National Players as the next installment of its esteemed Four-Star Series events.
National Players, the nation’s longest-running classical touring company, will perform its unique version of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” at 7 p.m Jan. 16 in the Cecilian Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.
Revolution has broken out on Manor Farm. The animals have claimed their independence. Humans are banished and the new “Animal Farm” will be a beautiful egalitarian paradise. Pigs, horses, goats, donkeys and dogs … all animals are equal.
The animals can build their new utopia, but can they resist the corruption that led to the human’s downfall? From the author of “1984,” this chilling and provocative fable is brought to the stage with focused clarity and spark.
Now celebrating its 64th season, National Players have earned a place in American theater by bringing innovative productions to audiences. National Players introduces audiences to great works of dramatic literature with wit and energy, including works from William Shakespeare and John Steinbeck.
National Players describes its distinct style: “Our productions touch hearts and minds, inspire imagination and wonder, spark curiosity about the self, the world and the creative process, and celebrate what it means to be human.”
National Players have performed at the White House, in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and throughout 40 states. They have brought literature to life for more than 2.5 million viewers.
