Rose, ISU frat men join for fire truck pull event

TERRE HAUTE — Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapters at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University have teamed up to organize the fifth annual Fire Truck Pull on Saturday to support Special Olympics Indiana. The event is set for noon to 4 p.m. on Eighth Street, between Wabash Avenue and Cherry Street.

At least 10 community teams are being sought to participate in this year’s event. Each team should have eight to 10 people working together to pull a fire truck 100 feet in the fastest time.

Past entries have come from the Terre Haute Fire Department, Union Hospital, Terre Haute Police Department and Shriner Club of Terre Haute. Also, more than 500 people from the community and Special Olympic athletes have attended the event, and learned about Special Olympics Indiana.

This year’s goal is to raise over $10,000.

The day includes children’s activities, demonstrations by the Terre Haute Police Department’s K-9 Search and Rescue Team, live music and displays by the Riley Fire Department. There also will be pulling events for athlete and kids teams.

Special Olympics Indiana is a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Terre Haute hosts the Special Olympics Games Indiana each summer.
