It’s time again for one of Indiana’s largest events, the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. This 10-day countywide event always starts on the second Friday in October. This year’s dates are Friday through Oct. 21.
The festival offers activities and events countywide. The shining stars are Parke County’s 31 historic covered bridges.
Headquartered on the courthouse lawn in Rockville since 1957, visitors will find food, shopping, demonstrations and entertainment. A large tent and streets around the courthouse will be filled with even more crafters and vendors than previous years, and are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free entertainment is scheduled on the south side of the courthouse throughout each day. Bus tours leave daily at scheduled times from the Courthouse square, giving visitors the opportunity to view covered bridges and make stops along the way.
The Parke Players Melodrama this year is “Dirty Work at the Crossroads,” presented nightly at the Ritz Theater in Rockville. Chart-topping singer/songwriters Jill Colucci, along with Pam Rose and Chuck Jones, will perform hit songs they have penned for some of the top international music stars during a special show on Tuesday at the Ritz.
Bloomingdale Friends will be making apple butter at Friends Meeting House. Bridgeton will offer crafters and vendors along with the mill and the Bridgeton Bridge. Also stop by Mansfield to shop and visit the roller mill and the Mansfield Bridge. Visit the Mecca Bridge with a tent alongside full of handmade and homemade items. Montezuma has a complete schedule of daily events (find them at tribstar.com/bash). Florida Township Civic Center in Rosedale offers a great variety of treasures. Tangier serves the world-famous buried beef daily.
Free maps and information are available at the Tourist Information Center in the Train Depot, 401 E. Ohio, in Rockville or by calling 765-569-5226. Also visit www.coveredbridges.com or Parke County Indiana on Facebook for daily updates and information.
