Halcyon to present ‘Finding An Angle’ photography exhibit

TERRE HAUTE — The Halcyon Contemporary Art Gallery will present “Finding An Angle,” photography by Fran Lattanzio in November. The opening reception is 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6.

Lattanzio has worked in photography for nearly 40 years. During that time, many changes in materials and processes have occurred, making a significant impact on creative approaches. As a skilled professional and being intimately familiar with the techniques of photography, Lattanzio is able to choose the medium most suitable for her work. For example, Lattanzio recently purchased a plastic pinhole camera which enabled looking at familiar subject matter in unique ways. This technique produced larger negatives that were then used to make Palladium prints (an antique process with an exceptional tonal range). Some of these prints will be on display at the Halcyon exhibit.

Many other approaches to photography will be showcased in Lattanzio’s exhibit, including silver gelatin prints and digital photography.

Lattanzio has been an art professor at Indiana State University since 1975. She is an active member of the arts community, serving on the board of directors for Arts Illiana and participating in regional and national art exhibits. She has been recognized for her achievements with awards such as The Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Award at ISU in 2008, The Educational Excellence Award, College of Arts & Sciences at ISU in 2006 and the Bravo! The Arts Art Educator of the Year Award in 2003.

The exhibit will be on view at the Halcyon from Nov. 3 to 27. Halcyon is next to the Swope Art Museum at 25 S. Seventh St. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.
